With the first of three stages of construction now completed on the new Route 29 Bridge over Route 202 in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, northbound Route 29 traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge section Monday night or early Tuesday morning (May 4-5) and construction will begin on the span’s center section.
Lane Closures/Shifts
Lane closures and temporary traffic stoppages will occur on Route 29 between Route 30 and Swedesford Road from 10 p.m. Monday (May 4) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (May 5) while crews restripe the highway and relocate barriers to implement the traffic pattern change.
In conjunction with the traffic shift on northbound Route 29, PennDOT will remove the restriction on left turns from northbound Route 29 to westbound Swedesford Road early Tuesday morning (May 5). This turn restriction, along with its related detour, has been in place since bridge work began on Route 29 in spring 2008.
Northbound and southbound motorists on Route 202 will encounter nighttime lane closures and brief stoppages next week (May 4-8) at the Route 29 Interchange with the start of demolition of the center section of the Route 29 Bridge. Lane closures and stoppages will occur Monday through Friday (May 4-8) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Use Caution
Other work at the Route 29 Interchange next week may result in intermittent flagger-controlled lane closures on Swedesford Road at the bridge over Route 202 on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Flaggers also may be in place Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Cedar Hollow Road at the new bridge over Route 202. Crews at that location are finishing repaving activities at the approaches to the new bridge.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
